Download Report Generator Technical Specification

One of the most important aspects of your reliability or safety studies is the creation of professional standard reports that will enable you to present the results in a clear and understandable form to colleagues, management, customers and regulatory bodies.

The Isograph reliability software products share a common facility to produce reports containing text, graphs and diagrams. Your input data and output results from reliability applications are stored in a database. This information can be examined, filtered, sorted and displayed by the Report Generator. The Report Generator allows you to use existing report formats to print or print preview the data. You can also design your own reports. The Report Generator is an MDI application and can display multiple windows, each of which can contain tabular reports, application diagrams or graphs.

You can easily assign the page setup information that includes the paper size, orientation, margins, units and drawing grid spacing for the report. The report may be displayed and printed in either landscape or portrait mode.

  • Text, graph and diagram reports have the following elements in common: Header, Footer, Text boxes, Pictures and Page Setup.
  • Header and Footer facilities allow you to define areas at the top and bottom of each page respectively in which descriptive text may be inserted.  The colour of the text can be selected. You have complete control of the font specification for the header or footer text. The user can define a border thickness and colour for the header or footer areas. The header or footer areas can be filled with a colour of your choice.
  • Text boxes can be used in addition to the report header and footer options. Text boxes can be positioned anywhere inside the report margins. You can alter the text, justification and line spacing of a text box. The colour of the text can also be chosen. The font family for the text box text can be chosen from the standard Windows font dialog. You can alter the border width, border position, border colour and background fill of a text box.
  • Pictures can be positioned anywhere inside the report margins. These pictures will enhance to the appearance of your reports by making them more colourful and interesting. Most of the commonly used image file types can be used as a source of the pictures.
  • The margin, header, footer and field heading positions, field widths, and text box positions and sizes, can be adjusted using the mouse in both design layout and print preview modes.
  • Assign the page setup information that includes the paper size, orientation, margins, units and drawing grid spacing for the report. The report may be displayed and printed in either landscape or portrait mode.

Green Ball.gif (257 bytes) Text Reports

  • Select a subset of the whole database information to be included in the report by one of two options.  The first option contains a list of pre-defined selection criteria. Each criteria will result in a list of available fields. The alternative method  is based on SQL commands.
  • Having selected a subset of fields using the query features, you can specify which fields are required in the report and the ordering of the columns in which the information will appear.
  • Set the height of the field headings at the top of each column. Set the text in the field headings or use the field names as the defaults. Set the horizontal and vertical justification of the text and its colour. The font to be used in the headings can be chosen from the standard Windows font selection dialog. Set the heading border weight and colour. The field headings area can be filled with a user defined colour.
  • Specify if the field heading and corresponding field column is to be displayed. Set the font family, style and size of the text in a field. The font family for the field text can be chosen from the standard Windows font dialog. You can alter the border width, border position and background fill of a field. The field border weight and colour can also be chosen. The field can be filled with a user defined colour. Records in the fields can be sorted and filtered by choosing the Sort/Filter tab. The records can be sorted in ascending or descending order. The records will be sorted on the first column, then on the second column where the first column contents are identical and so on for further columns. The contents of each column can be filtered by choosing a filter operator and the setting the associated criteria.
  • A text report can be printed our directly or imported into a Rich Text Format compatible software product such as Microsoft Word where it could be combined into a larger report and printed.

Green Ball.gif (257 bytes) Graph Reports

  • Graph reports can contain one or more graph pages each of which in turn can contain one or more graphs. The graphs themselves can display one or more plots.
  • Each graph has axes, labels, legends and titles that are configured using simple dialogs.
  • 3-dimensional graph type  have the added facility of setting the viewing angle by moving slider controls that alter the rotation and elevation angles.
  • Easily select and filter the data  to be plotted.
  • Use  the standard report types that are supplied with the software or design your own graph reports by either modifying existing reports or creating completely new ones.
  • The size and position of the graph area within a report page can be set either through a dialog or more intuitively by the use of the mouse.
  • A graph contains a rich array of attributes each of which  can be easily set through the use of a tabbed dialog. Plot   data as 2-D line, bar, pie, area and scatter graphs or 3-D bar, pie, scatter and tape graphs. Plot log/lin, log/log or lin/log graphs. These graphs can be plotted in various vertical or horizontal styles.
  • Print them out directly to colour or monochrome devices or  export them in Rich Text Format (RTF). The RTF file can then be imported into other products such as Microsoft Word where it could be combined into a larger document and then printed.

Green Ball.gif (257 bytes) Diagram Reports

  • Some of the reliability software products use diagrams to represent the system logic, examples are reliability networks and fault trees.
  • Report Generator can include   diagrams in reports. Specify are the vertical and horizontal indents in the drawing area and whether the diagram should maintain its aspect ratio or fit to the drawing area.
  • As with graph and text reports, diagram reports can be either printed them out directly to colour or monochrome devices or   exported  in Rich Text Format (RTF). The RTF file can then be imported into other products such as Microsoft Word where it could be combined into a larger document and then printed.
